Peak Experiences and Happiness by Eric Armstrong

I enjoyed this article about ways to generate happiness by a man named Eric Armstrong. He is apparently a student of a teacher named Dr. Tae Yun Kim, and while I'm not familiar with her work, I thought his analysis of some of the hows and whys of generating happiness was right on.

He discusses the trap of the intellect and how it is always micromanaging our emotions, demanding that we only experience happiness in response to things or events in our lives. True emotional mastery comes from being able to summon up a happy energy from within, regardless of what is happening in your exterior world. But even peak experiences of bliss can have their downside, because you can't maintain them indefinitely. So being TOO happy probably isn't a completely authentic state for us down here in the world of
3-D. He quotes one of his teachers as saying that after a while on the spiritual path, you learn to avoid the emotional highs as well as the emotional lows.

I can attest to the wisdom of this. I used to be very polar in my emotionality, a dramatic actress who lived by those peaks and valleys. Much of my twenties was a mad dash from one thing to the next. I changed residences and relationships at the drop of a hat, always chasing joy. It was great when I was "up" because I'd be filled with creative energy and optimism. But I was very dysfunctional during the "down" times.

Through many years of self-clearing and what I hope has been real personal growth, I now have a very different core emotionality. I'm just more - level. While generally optimistic and joyful in my overall outlook, I'm not looking for crazy "highs" because I know that they are an exaggerated state.

For me, feeling appreciative for the little things and giving thanks keeps me in a good place, because gratitude can put you in a spiritually humble place where you are content but not ecstatic.

Anyway, I think Eric Armstrong raises some good ideas in his essay about happiness. Enjoy!

The new moon is in Aries today, and while it's Mercury retrograde until the 12th and not the greatest time to start new projects, there's still some good energy floating around. The new moon marks the "new year" for a given month, the time to clear away the debris of old thoughtforms, stale relationships, and unwanted energy.

It's also a good time to focus on manifesting what you really desire in your life, both for yourself and for others.

Some people like to write a new moon abundance check for themselves at this time (see my series of articles at http://www.lipstickmystic.com.) That can be a fun, powerful ritual to help connect you with the energies of abundance.

But this particular new moon carries some volatile energy with it, so I myself am going to sit this one out. I won't write a new moon abundance check. Spirit Release Work and Dr. Shakuntala Modi

Dr. Shakuntala Modi is a psychiatrist and author of two wonderful books, Remarkable Healings and Memories of God and Creation (Hampton Roads.) I highly recommend Remarkable Healings to anyone who stumbles upon this blog entry and is interested in learning how to keep their auric field clear, reclaim lost energy due to soul fragmentation (or "soul loss"), and to improve their physical and emotional health. Remarkable Healings is simply the most ground-breaking and helpful book I have EVER read in the metaphysical genre, and you'll find it amazing, too.

I'm including a link to an interview with Dr. Modi in which she talks about her work. Basically, through working with hypnosis on her patients, she stumbled across information she hadn't expected to find. People described various entity attachments ranging from the human (discarnate entities, often loved ones!) to the demonic (negative beings who are opposite from angels in vibration and seek to drag a person down, spiritually.) The accumulation of these energies in a person's body and energy field proved to be the sole source of their ailments, both on the physical and the emotional level.

The implications of this work are astonishing. The auric egg or energy envelope surrounding the body can be penetrated by these various entities, if a person's psychic "immunity" isn't strong enough. And this is the number one cause of ailments of every kind - including many conditions modern medicine has never been able to cure, like depression and chronic fatigue. These are usually the by-product of parasitic entity attachments, and, once they are removed, the person's well-being is restored.

Dr. Modi gradually discovered some simple forms of invocation which can clear out these entities and attachments and relieve many physical and emotional ailments in the process. She works with a person's angelic helpers and spiritual guides and, of course, the power of God/Goddess/Great Spirit/The Great Kahuna. :)

This is amazing work. By adapting her techniques in my own healing work (and also through having other complimentary techniques revealed to me by my own higher guidance,) I have been able to help people release core stuff that they didn't even know they were carrying around. Many times, people are so saturated with attachments that what they think of as their "core personality" isn't even their own! It's more of an overlay of all of these entities.

So, through diligent clearing work (which you can learn how to do on yourself with this book,) you'll experience many amazing changes on a physical and emotional level. The more comfortable you are with invoking and working with the angels for healing, the more readily you can incorporate what she teaches in the book.

Some Signs of Spiritual Awakening

We're truly living in interesting times, and whether you believe in Earth changes, ascension, a dimensional shift, a time shift, or the Four Monkeys of the Apocalypse, it seems that many people are experiencing an "awakening" of sorts. Along the way, psychic senses seem to be popping open for a lot of people, or existing psychic senses may be gaining greater strength and magnitude.

Physical changes are common, too. Some bodily symptoms which are widely reported include feelings of inexplicable vertigo which come and go (as if the very Earth were wobbling beneath your feet, yet it's not a measurable earthquake - more of a "psychic quake;) changes in sleep (needing more sleep or less sleep;) and weight gain or loss.

The Cost of a Miracle - True Story

Here's an inspiring true story someone sent to me today:

A little girl went to her bedroom and pulled a glass jelly jar from its hiding place in the closet. She poured the change out on the floor and counted it carefully. She counted it three times, even. The total had to be exactly perfect. There was no chance here for mistakes.

Placing the coins back in the jar and twisting on the cap, she slipped out the back door and made her way 6 blocks to Rexall's Drug Store with the big red Indian Chief sign above the door. She waited patiently for the pharmacist to give her some attention but he was busy speaking with someone and didn't pay her any mind.

Tess twisted her feet to make a scuffing noise. Nothing. She cleared her throat with the most disgusting sound she could muster. No good. Finally she took a quarter from her jar and banged it on the glass counter. That did it!

"And what do you want?" the pharmacist asked in an annoyed tone of voice. "I'm talking to my brother from Chicago whom I haven't seen in ages."

"Well, I want to talk to you about my brother," Tess answered back in the same annoyed tone. "He's really, really sick... and I want to buy a miracle."

''I beg your pardon?" said the pharmacist.

"His name is Andrew and he has something bad growing inside his head, and my Daddy says only a miracle can save him now. So how much does a miracle cost?"

"We don't sell miracles here, little girl. I'm sorry but I can't help you," the pharmacist said, softening a little.

"Listen, I have the money to pay for it. If it isn't enough, I'll get the rest. Just tell me how much it costs."

The well-dressed man who had been standing by the counter talking with the pharmacist looked down and gave her a smile. This was the pharmacist's brother. He stooped down and asked the little girl, "What kind of a miracle does your brother need?"

"I don't know," Tess replied with her eyes welling up. "I just know he's really sick and Mommy says he needs an operation. But my Daddy can't pay for it, so I want to use my money."

"How much do you have?" asked the man from Chicago.

"One dollar and eleven cents," Tess answered barely audibly. "And it's all the money I have, but I can get some more if I need to."

"Well, what a coincidence," smiled the man. "A dollar and eleven cents --- the exact price of a miracle for little brothers. " He took her money in one hand and with the other hand he grasped her mitten and said "Take me to where you live. I want to see your brother and meet your parents. Let's see if I have the miracle you need."

That well-dressed man was Dr. Carlton Armstrong, a surgeon specializing in neuro-surgery. The operation was completed without charge and it wasn't long until Andrew was home again and doing well.

Some months afterwards, the little girl's Mom and Dad were happily talking about the chain of events that had led them to this place. "That surgery was a real miracle," her Mom whispered. "I wonder how much it would have cost?"

Tess smiled. She knew exactly how much a miracle cost...one dollar and eleven cents .....plus the faith of a little child.

A miracle is not the suspension of natural law, but the operation of a higher law.

Editor's note: I would add that a miracle is what happens when events occur which stand at the outer edge of our belief window, challenging our very notions about what is and isn't possible.

And I'm all for living on that edge. It's where all the magic is.

How Our Emotions Affect Our Bodies

Below, you'll find a link to an eloquent essay about how our emotional state affects our physical bodies. It's so true.

Sometimes, though, when our bodies appear to be misbehaving, it can take a while to tune in and receive the deeper message of our illness. We all have our blind spots, issues we're reluctant to address, and sometimes we're too deeply involved with old patterns to be able to clearly see beyond them.

But it is something you can learn to do, with vigorous self-reflection, meditation, and prayer.

***Warning: personal sharing is about to happen.***

For the past few weeks, I was dealing with this weird, flaky skin that was happening all over my face. I'd never experienced anything like it before. At first, I ignored it and thought it was due to an allergic reaction to some moisturizer or makeup I'd been using. But even when I went without makeup (not that I wear much, anyway, being a country girl these days) it persisted.

It wasn't itchy, it was just like the severely flaky skin you get after you've experienced a sunburn and your skin is starting to heal.

I learned to embrace the world of hypoallergenic moisturizers. Still, even after applying tons of it each day, my skin was just as flaky as ever.

I worried that maybe I was mutating into some alien being, which I didn't want to have happen! But as I meditated and connected with my inner guidance, I got that that wasn't the case. Good.

Then, the humorist in me thought, "Well, I'm used to people calling me a flake, so perhaps my skin took this message a little too literally." But that wasn't it.

There was some redness beneath the flakiness, sort of a strange red floating blotchiness.

I finally started to get that this was all connected to a couple of things that were going on in my life.

My husband/boyfriend/companion-unit has been involved with putting together a workspace for his consultants downstairs in our house, and it's involved a tremendous amount of coordination on both of our parts. For several weeks, we were immersed in setting up computers, coordinating various people from furniture movers to computer network guys coming in to set things up. There was a blur of 10 hour work days and weekends filled with office coordination. Then I was putting together a website for him ASAP, which took a lot of my focus.

I was happy to help with all of that, and since I have my office upstairs, I didn't see any problems with our two businesses getting in the way of each other. But it was stressful getting things going, I had to admit.

So.....my skin was rebelling. There was a lot of anger and anxiousness associated with this rash. I got that part. I worked at trying to release it. I did some healing work on myself, had some healing work done on me, all geared toward acknowledging the anger.

The other part of the equation was interesting. I'm in the process of going much more public about my weird life and my unique perceptions about life, the universe, and everything as I go through some expansion on my website and in my writing work. And I realized that the face is a key component of our public image. We all want to present a good "face" to others. Anxiousness about this more public role and what people's reactions might be to my work was another piece of the puzzle. So I began working to release that.

I did a lot of research online about skin stuff and was relieved that this wasn't any of the bizarre skin diseases that are going around. I didn't have any of those symptoms. No flesh-eating killer bacteria from the Planet Clare, thank God.

Somehow, my intuition was telling me that this was minor, but it also was something I needed to heal for myself.

Finally, I realized that I needed to send a message to my body in a more powerful way that I UNDERSTOOD what it was trying to tell me. I investigated homeopathic treatments for skin rashes and received the guidance that sulphur was the thing I should take for a couple of days.

Sulphur represents fiery stuff, anger, passion, rage, etc. Homeopathic treatments are interesting, because they work in a different way than most Western forms of medicine. Homeopathy works on the principle that you apply treatment by using the SAME THING that the body is experiencing (in my case, the buried rage, which is an energy principle tied to sulphur) and trigger the body into manifesting its OPPOSITE by doing so.

So a homeopathic allergy remedy, if you're allergic to a certain pollen, would contain microscopic amounts of that pollen you're allergic to.....using the principle that the body will now be triggered into an OPPOSITE response.

I'm not a homepathic expert, so forgive my clumsiness with this description. But this is the overall idea, anyway.

So....I started taking the little tablets with microscopic amounts of sulphur in them. With homeopathic remedies, they either work very fast, or you aren't working with the right remedy. Somehow, I knew sulphur was the one. Within two days my rash had subsided 75%. And it's almost gone now. (I only took the homeopathic remedy three days. You're not supposed to take them for very long.)

Lots of lessons learned along the way....about expressing and acknowledging emotional energy.

And, much to my surprise, I discovered that since so much old skin has exfoliated, my skin now has a lovely color to it, and some fine wrinkles are gone. So there you go! The cosmos organized this whole experience perfectly. I can truly put my best face forward now. :)

STUDIES IN SPIRITUAL HEALING

Weird Dog Sightings in Texas and New Jersey

There have been many interesting developments on the "cryptozoology" front over the past few years. Cryptozoology is the science of studying strange creatures that have yet to be added to the list of accepted "flora and fauna." What I'd like to know is just who decides that a creature exists? I mean, if hundreds of people see it, take photos of it, and maybe even have a carcass to show scientists, shouldn't that make it "real?"

Alas, the march of science is often a slow one, moving at a pace roughly equivalent to watching paint dry. Maybe even slower.

Personally, I want to mention that I've seen these weird dogs before. I live in central New Jersey, and my honey and I have seen these creatures roaming in farm fields on several occasions. They are very strange. Your eyes keep wanting to make it a familiar animal - so when you see one, your brain starts to play games with you. Your brain wants to turn it into a coyote or a fox, except you've seen coyotes and foxes before, and this doesn't look like them.

I'd say the weirdest part is the tail. That's the part we keep really noticing. Because that's not a normal dog tail. When one of these animals runs in front of the car, you really notice that long, stringy tail dangling behind it.

Anyway, I just wonder how many people have to see something before we get to call it "real." Or is it a matter of affiliation? Like, if you're a registered Republican or hold a PhD in rocket science, then do you become qualified to say whether something is "real" or not? And then they call you up to talk about it on Crossfire?

Enlightenment is Over-Rated by Susan Quinn

Susan Quinn is the author of a book called The Deepest Spiritual Life, an interfaith discussion of what it means to be truly spiritual. She also maintains a website, http://www.thedeepestspirituallife.com, where she posts a monthly ezine.

I especially enjoyed this piece from her archives called “Enlightenment is Over-rated.” In it, she talks about how she was studying Buddhism for a long time and was seeking the classic enlightenment experience. Everyone around her was going into these blissful states and having glimpses of nirvana, and while her own meditation practice was going well, she never had one of those sought after moments of intense connection with the divine.

One day, she started to realize that maybe enlightenment doesn’t have to be something that finds you from the outside, arriving out of the blue like a thunder clap. Enlightenment can simply be the light that you shine on your everyday life, the energy that you bring to your daily experiences.

I like this idea and agree with her totally. Our loving intentions and our open hearts are the tools we can use to create our own enlightenment – don’t you think?

David Angel on African Healing and the Sangoma Tradition

David Angel is a Sangoma or African shaman who provides a wonderful overview of the indigenous African approach to healing in a recent article which he wrote at Onespirit.com. Shamanic traditions permeate every culture, and they are based on a thorough knowledge of the healing properties of herbs and the very real power of prayer or spiritual ritual. I like Angel's explanation of what a Sangoma is (and what it isn't!) Unfortunately, many like to demonize those who are trained in the ancient ways, and yet, these are the very folks who have the training to cast OUT demons!

I have a friend whose aunt and uncle called a priest to their house to do an exorcism for them because so much dark energy was clouding both their home and their relationship.

Priests are no longer trained in the metaphysical arts that have long accompanied their sacred role, so as with many such cases of attempted exorcism, this priest's work had no effect. The couple experienced zero improvement.

The knowledge of subtle energies and the various dimensions which flow in and out of this one is something that the shamanic traditions have carried forward for millennia. The work of a Sangoma, according to David Angel, encompasses a wide variety of work, from physical healing to psycho/spiritual healing. People who have the courage to take on this role in our modern society are true spiritual warriors, because they deal with so much fear and superstition from "average folk" who don't understand how energy works.

Who are you going to turn to when YOU are under severe psychic attack? Most likely, your priest or minister will just offer vague encouragement about how you should pray. That's all well and good, but most people aren't taught how to pray properly, so their prayers have little effect. It's one thing to rebuke dark energies in the name of Jesus, quite another to do so with the necessary spiritual passion and applied faith which creates a true doorway for that divine Great One to intervene here. You have to hold the doorway open if you want to manifest miracles from a higher level of reality, and people aren't taught how to be energy gateways.

Prayer is a magical collaboration between you and a Higher Power to shift energy in the physical and spiritual planes. Passion, conviction, an open heart, and a knowledge of how energy works are all keys to successful prayer. This is true whether you honor Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, or the Mother Goddess as your focal point in prayer. These energies cannot help you unless you link up with them, and the only way to do this is with a burst of real love and a willingness to allow the Divine to work through you.

All spiritual practice comes down to this: are you ready to be an instrument for peace and to allow that essence to permeate your being? The closer we are to achieving this on a daily basis, the more we create Heaven on Earth. And I firmly believe that is our job! It's one we should all be consciously entering into.

The path of the Sangoma, as with all holy people, is to be an interface between humanity and that Higher Power and to serve up "miracles" down here in the world of 3-D.

All such folks should be honored, supported, and appreciated, because they walk a path of lost knowledge. . . knowledge which we need very much to reclaim, if we are to set this planet on a course for peace at any time in the near future.

When I say neo-pagan, I’m referring to people who tend to be attuned to the “old ways” of understanding energy, working with the elements of fire, air, earth, and water as a part of their spiritual practice. Obviously, the neo-pagan traditional covers a lot of different sub-groups – from modern Wiccans to indigenous shamans to Native American healers. But basically we’re talking about people who have kept alive the ancient approach of respecting Mother Earth and the building blocks of material creation.

I tend to tread gently around all of these highly-charged terms, because there is so little unity among spiritually-oriented people. Many Christians feel they have nothing in common with pagans. And many pagans are still smarting from the very real “burning times” which are still alive and well today. I mean, when I worked full-time as a psychic counselor, whenever I was at a social gathering and people asked me what I did for a living, people’s heads tended to spin after I talked about what I do. It’s sad, really. Jesus was one of the greatest metaphysicians who ever walked the planet, and understanding how he worked with energy can actually be an important part of the pagan path. So there is “magic” that has been hidden in the Gnostic traditions and buried deeply within the Christian faith, left in the hands of the anointed few to a large degree (the secret societies who kept this wisdom to themselves for many centuries.) Recapturing this wisdom and learning to truly do “power prayer” can add much to any traditional religious practice, including Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.

By the way, the four Greek elements are woven into all metaphysical traditions, so you’ll see the elements turning up in astrology (signs are divided into Fire, Air, Earth, and Water signs), tarot symbology (the four suits of the cards) and more.

The Chinese have a slightly different understanding of the elements and break them down into fire, air, wood, metal, and water. The goal of harmonizing these elements within the physical body and the psyche is central to their forms of healing, so these are woven into systems like acupuncture and Chinese herbal healing.

Shirley MacLaine on Essential Oils

Shirley MacLaine has a nice section on her site where she discusses some of the uses of various essential oils. Essential oils are highly concentrated forms of plant or flower oils. Many of the sweeter smelling oils like lavender, frankincense, sandalwood, and rose carry an extremely high spiritual vibration. So if you're ever in need of a pick-me-up, simply sniffing a little of the oil while it is still in the bottle acts as a dose of aromatherapy. And putting a tiny bit on your pulse points, the wrists and so forth, is great, too. You don't want to use TOO much of any essential oil on the body or in the bath, as it will tend to burn the skin.

Gordon Michael Scallion's Healing Mandala Image

You may have heard of Gordon Michael Scallion, an intuitive who is probably most famous for his book Notes from the Cosmos and his Earth Changes map. He has created a beautiful animation in the "meditation room" at his site. It's a moving purple mandala image which represents the new energy grid that he clairvoyantly sees forming around the Earth.

For years now, gifted psychics have been tracking this grid and all of the energy shifts we are going through, which can manifest in earthquakes, changes in the tectonic plates, and alterations to our auric fields. New Moon Tonight, Tuesday the 8th at 5:28 pm

As you may already know, there's a new moon in the sign of Aquarius tonight - Tuesday, February 8th. It happens at 5:28 pm EST here in the U.S.

The moon joins the sun, Mercury and Venus, all of which are also in the sign of Aquarius right now, for a powerful and uplifting kick of energy.

Those of you who would like to meditate and set some intentions around financial abundance (or personal well-being, relationship success, etc.) may wish to write yourself a "new moon abundance check." You can make the check out for anything, it doesn't have to be for money. And you can do this any time over the next three days, because the energy will be active throughout that time.

By writing yourself out a check and putting "paid in full," you're setting a powerful intention to expand your personal energy and to embrace larger and higher levels of joy in all aspects of your life. You DO have the power to shift patterns of energy and to break through old filters, mind control programs, and limiting beliefs. The new moon abundance check is a fun little ritual that really works.

For the last two days, I took a short trip out of town while my honey attended a conference in Atlantic City, and my new moon abundance check from last month certainly kicked in. I was playing some of the slot machines and won over $1500. Of course, I was carefully managing both my cash flow and my personal energy, maintaining an abundant mindset. And I had to stop gambling the minute I felt my energy dip or my positive attitude shift. (It's when you're tired that you end up giving back everything you've won!) But the exercise of writing myself a new moon abundance check last month certainly helped me to open up to receiving greater abundance.

By the way, money issues as a whole become so abstract when you're at a casino. You realize it's all just energy, all blips of data. This energy is constantly beaming into you in the form of particle waves. You can really feel this if you attune yourself to the frequency.

The challenge is to release personal filters and restrictive thoughtforms which tend to put a limit to how much you are willing to receive. We each have personal "set points," stopping points beyond which we don't entirely feel comfortable receiving. But we can dismantle these and free ourselves up to experience greater abundance if we work at it.

I'm very excited this morning because I'm heading out to interview a gifted healer associate of mine, a man by the name of Bert Rinkel. He has a healing practice in New Hope, Pennsylvania, where he does Shiatsu massage, acupuncture, and shamanic energy work. He was trained by Michael Harner, anthropologist and founder of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies. Harner sort of single-handedly brought traditional native shamanism into the Western culture, reclaiming those maps of the psychic world and setting up a training system so non-indigenous peoples could start making broader use of these incredible healing techniques.

I'll be posting the interview with Bert at my website in the months to come, most likely in several parts.

Being Lazy is Good for You - Researchers Find

Aha! At long last, proof of what we lazy types have suspected for a long time....that excessively exercising is stressful to the body and that a more relaxed, laughter-oriented lifestyle may well be better for our long-term health.

Every time I go to the gym - which is once in a while - those excessively thin women who overexercise give off such a toxic vibe, I can barely be in the same room with them! Life as a Hologram - How We Interconnect Despite Distance

This material was written by the late author and researcher Michael Talbot, whose book, The Holographic Universe, you should order RIGHT NOW. I'm not kidding. I found this book years ago, and it was ahead of its time. We are only just now beginning to wrap our minds around many of the concepts he so beautifully illustrates.

His book is sort of a quantum physics guide for the layperson, but it's more than that - he specifically sets out to describe scientific evidence for mystical forms of communication and mystical states of consciousness. Apocalypso - The Dance Everybody Seems to Be Doing

In the early 80's a wonderful New Wave band emerged from the L.A. music scene. They were called The Motels, and the lead singer was husky-voiced siren Martha Davis. You probably remember them from their hit, "Only the Lonely."

I bought the album that "Only the Lonely" was featured on when it came out, and I loved every one of the songs on it. The lyrics painted powerful word-pictures for me. Martha Davis' richly-textured voice really transported me to The Motels' dimension of moody, often melancholy, song-stories.

I remember one song that was quirky and offbeat. It was called "Apocalypso." I haven't been able to locate the lyrics online, but one line from the chorus still sticks in my mind. It is: "Do the Apocalypso now."

Lately, it would seem that everyone in the alternative/New Age community is doing the Apocalypso. I think of the Apocalypso as the energy dance that many people enter into when they start running around like Chicken Little screaming "The sky is falling, the sky is falling!" The enter into disaster consciousness, end of the world consciousness, Apocalypse or Armageddon consciousness. They start anticipating tragedy around every corner just because this prophet or that one has predicted that there would one day be a major earthquake. . . and wow, a big earthquake actually happened! So that must mean the end of the world is at hand!

The same predictions have been made for millenia, but we tend to forget that. There have been big earthquakes before, and the world didn't "end." There have been big tragedies before, but they weren't some cure-all that made humanity stop sinning overnight. Growth is gradual, evolution is a process.

So why do we keep thinking that we need the Big Hollywood Ending here, like something out of a Spielberg movie? Can't anyone imagine a gentler way of experiencing change on this planet, a kinder, more loving way for humanity to grow? Why do so many people enter into planning their own suicides through visions of earth changes, mass catastrophes, or global warfare? Why is that process so addictive and enticing for us?

The sad thing about Armageddon is that people don't understand its true nature. Armageddon is a holographic, Luciferian "insert" or mind control program that way too many people are giving energy to. Why are they doing that? Because, for them, they imagine that natural disasters, death and destruction are the only possible doorway through which humanity is going to be "redeemed." For them, there can be no other way. It is only through self-annihilation that humanity can be put on course again, spiritually speaking - or so they believe.

The people who desperately seek Armageddon are often folks who have lost confidence about their connection with the Divine, their ability to tap into a power larger and more awesome than themselves, and the only way they can conceive of this happening is through some large-scale world drama taking place. They are hungry for God, they are hungry for change, and so they add energy to this belief that something BIG and TERRIBLE needs to happen for that connection to God to open up again.

It's sad, really. Too many people still see God as this distant, authoritative, judgmental being who is one day going to rain disaster down upon us all for our sins.

Each of us has the capacity to every day enter into communication with the Divine. We don't have to wait for Armageddon or the Apocalypse to make this accessible. This energy and creative intelligence is available to us now, today. . . . flawed though we are, "sinners" though we may be.

If we can get ourselves on course again spiritually and materially, learning to care more about each other and to express that caring better, and to enter consciously into the art of creation, then we won't require an Armageddon or an Apocalyptic event to spur this shift in consciousness. It will no longer be needed.

The recent undersea earthquake and the resulting tsunamis in Southeast Asia were a "wake-up" call reminding us that changes need to happen in our consciousness and that if we don't start caring more about each other, more disasters may well occur to FORCE us to start using our hearts. George Bush Sr. and Bill Clinton put aside their differences to focus on disaster relief. Wouldn't it be nice if it didn't take world tragedies to force the various factions of the world to band together in acts of kindness?

Do the work NOW, and the "end of the world" doesn't have to become your only chance for spiritual redemption. The energies of Armageddon and the Apocalyptic mindset reflect the disowned, fragmented, and wounded pieces of our own being which have to be made whole again. This takes spiritual "homework," but it is not too late to change the "outcome" here in this Earth school.

It's all about assuming responsibility for your creations. . . and for the joint creations that you are entering into with the rest of humanity.

If you want to give your energy over to disaster consciousness, go ahead.

Just realize that that is what you are doing. Assume responsibility for it. Name it for what it is.

Admit that you're doing the Apocalpyso, that you've chosen to enter into that tempting, dark doorway of fear and misery.

However, that's one dance I'm going to bypass. I much prefer the Cosmic Mambo. The dance floor is a lot sunnier, and they serve a great margarita.

Karla Mclaren - New Ager Turned Skeptic

Karla Mclaren has been a metaphysical teacher and self-help author for some time. One of her books that you may have heard of is Emotional Intelligence. She wrote an interesting piece for the Skeptical Inquirer about the latest twist in her personal journey to live in a truthful, authentic way. After years of self-examination, she is giving up her work in the metaphysical field. She has decided that she falls more into the "skeptic" camp than the typical "New Ager" camp.

I don't agree with everything she writes, but she makes some good points about how New Agers tend to discredit themselves because of a lack of consistency and intellectual rigor. I think it's important to be both skeptical AND spiritual, myself. And in this essay, it sounds like Mclaren is giving up on much of the spiritual wisdom that has been with her throughout her life. That's a bit sad.

Still, she makes some good points, and this is a fascinating "coming out of the closet" piece from a former insider in the world of the New Age.

Odyssey of Life Online Oracle

I encourage you to check out this very wise online oracle. I promise that you'll enjoy it! Here's what I experienced when I tried it for the first time:

I stilled my energy, focused for a moment, and mentally asked this question, giving permission for the answer to be revealed through the online oracle:

"Will my honey and I be safe if we continue living where we currently are throughout 2005 and 2006?"

I had been thinking about all of the terrible weather and flooding and so forth that have been going on and just wanted to see if it's still safe to live within a few miles of the Delaware River.

This was the response I received when I clicked the button to have the oracle generate a response for me:

"Imagine that you have a Higher Self — a part of you that can never be harmed or do harm — and this Higher Self has created a playground for enacting all kinds of situations that will enable you to stretch, develop strengths and ultimately open to your highest good. The greatest challenge of this playground is to break through the illusion that you are not safe, supported and loved. All the pain you experience in life is a result of your fearfully resisting this truth. As you remember that you are always safe, whole and have all you need, pain and fear disappear. In this playground your consciousness is powerfully creative. What you think, feel, believe, desire and fear all have an impact on the physical world, turning your inner experience into your outer reality. This week look at all of your experiences as reflections of your inner state. As you do this, let go of any inclination to look for what you did wrong. I was blown away by the section I marked in bold here, where it specifically addressed my question of safety. Again, fear is always our greatest enemy. Staying centered so that you can react to things authenctically in the moment is the challenge we all face. That doesn't mean that "bad things" never happen. But it does mean that we must free ourselves of distractions and unnecessary panic so that we can respond to things wisely and effectively. Vague or random "end of the world" type worries don't serve anyone. You can't tune into your intuition or the messages that your nervous system is trying to give you if you are blocked with a lot of "noise" in your head.

So the key is to silence the noise through entering into this experience of feeling safe. THEN you can tune in to the wisdom that has always been natural to you.

Article on the Sexualization of Pre-Teens or "Tweens"

I'm always fascinated by what images, ideas, and products are surfacing in the media. There is such subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) mind control and behavioral conditioning going on, and a lot of it is very bad news, indeed.

For instance, in my syndicated astrology columns, I often take pot shots at Britney Spears.

There's a reason for that. She's a pox on the face of civilization.

Seriously, I have a real problem with performers like her, Christina Aguilera, and Justin Timberlake. They started working in show business way too young, and the Disney company groomed them from about the age of 10 to act out whatever images and ideas the bosses paid them to embody.

So these performers are generally presented as if they suddenly "made it" in their teens, but this isn't the whole picture. These kids were groomed for a decade before that to become these pop tart people.

I love artists and creative people and worked for many years in the arts myself. I have a real respect for anyone who is devoted to their craft, continuing to grow and express themselves in a creative field.

And, certainly, the three stars I mention have talent. It's the exploitation of that talent that I have problems with.

Britney was marketed as the world's most famous virgin for years, appealing to a generation of young women who hadn't yet experienced sex themselves.

Then, seemingly overnight, she comes of age and the media machine turns her into this whore for dollars. It's very sad. Why should a woman of her beauty, status, and connections agree to pantomime masturbation in her videos? Does she NEED to do that to sell records? I don't think so.

Madonna took a ton of flack early in her career for pushing the envelope with knowingly sexual, purposefully ironic, images and actions onstage. But she always seemed to me to "own" what she was doing, approaching it all from a theatrical mindset. She was playacting and encouraging us to take everything she was doing with a grain of salt. As she explored things like sexual taboo and religious taboo in her videos, she encouraged us to THINK. It's been a lot of fun seeing someone like her with real talent evolve through the years.

But with artists like Britney, it just seems like some big music producer is saying, "Take off your clothes, honey, and act like you like it."

Having seen the exploitative side of show business myself, I'm sensitive to those tones in a person's career. And Britney's sad show of a life offstage (two marriages in one year!) would seem to be a reflection of how messed up she's become from spending her whole childhood working in the "biz."

So we can thank people like Britney for filling young girl's heads with the idea that they need to be exactly like her in order to be cool. And she is so heavily marketed, so forced down everybody's throats, that there is simply no escaping her. She may take a "break" for a moment, but she'll soon be back in a more garish form. And legions of young girls ranging from six to twenty will be following trends that she sets, like they've been doing for years.

I've written for many women's magazines and for some "tween" magazines, and while the magazines I was writing for were pretty decent about not pushing sex on pre-teens, there are many on the newstands that are contributing to the oversexualization of tween age girls.

What happened to the whole concept of having a childhood?

Since when should a ten-year old have to worry that she might not be good enough at giving blow jobs, so she might not be "popular?" Isn't there enough of that pressure for women throughout their lives? Why push it at them at such a young age, before their personality is fully formed?

It's a dangerous trend, and we're going to be paying the price for it, societally speaking. I believe we are already.

Below you'll find a link to a fascinating article about the sexing up of tweens, especially tween age girls, in the media and through retail sales. I was really horrified by one particular clueless mom who was quoted. This woman was being asked why she lets her young girl dress in provocative clothing. Here is a brief excerpt from this section of the article:

Alexia is a friend of Amanda’s. She’s 11. Her parents, Nick and Nina, are also split over what’s acceptable.

“I grew up in a very strict Italian Catholic home,” says Nina.

“I wasn’t allowed to go out, no make up, no nothing. So I promised myself that if I ever had a daughter, I wouldn’t let her suffer because I really resent them for it. I think if Alexia didn’t fit in, I’d be extremely crushed, devastated.

“I don’t say no to her, because she sees myself, she sees her mom wearing these clothes and high heel shoes.”

Whoa - back up a minute.

The alleged MOM, Nina, would be "crushed, devasted" if she felt her daughter Alexia wasn't fitting in - but this is stemming from Nina's unresolved issues from her OWN childhood, when her parents didn't want her going out of the house wearing makeup.

SCARY SCARY SCARY SCARY SCARY SCARY SCARY SCARY.

I don't believe Nina got the memo on this one, but "fitting in" at school usually means "aligning yourself with the lowest common denominator." At every school I attended, the truly cool kids were the ones who were offbeat, eccentric, and going against the status quo. They were the ones who possessed a sense of self, a feeling of pride about their uniqueness, and who had self-respect about who they were. They weren't mindless, trend-chasing zombies.

I am SOOOOOO happy that I never fit in.

And I am SOOOOO happy that I didn't have "Nina" as a mom.

Side note: A friend of a friend is a Frenchman who has been living in the US for many years. He returns to France periodically to visit family there. He has commented about how there is a huge difference in how young girls dress in France as compared to America. He finds it pretty stark. In France, young girls are encouraged to be young women, and they dress in stylish, sophisticated yet understated clothing. (Think classy, not slutty; mature, not flashy.)

All women coming of age should be encouraged to celebrate their feminity, because it is a key component of their being. Of course, they can express this however they wish, and they needn't be wearing skirts all of the time if they don't want to! But I have to agree with the Frenchman who was sad that American young ladies don't seem to be shown how they can be dignified AND beautiful at the same time.

Showing your navel isn't sexy. It's exhibitionist and fun in its own way, but it's not classy! Today's girls aren't being given a chance to understand the difference. Their role models are too trashy, and there's very little else for them to latch on to in the media that is directed at them.

Here's raising a toast to CLASS......may it soon be more of an operating principle here in the U.S.

Through our fear we require someone or something to tell us everything is going to be all right and the majority are ready to listen to whatever answer makes them feel safe, regardless of who or what purveys the answer. We are allowing our fear to rule the world and by doing so we furnish their agenda with all the power they require.

They know that FEAR is temporary because the human being has the ability to conquer fear without even trying. A human is so powerful that it only takes an element of understanding about an unknown situation before FEAR begins to dwindle. This is why the controlling influences stage more and more elaborate scenarios to instil more FEAR.

I will give you an example of what I mean. We know that the human race becomes hardened to certain things; the dead bodies on the news for example. At first we FEAR these scenes until they become part of our existence and then we take them in our stride ~ we no longer FEAR them. When we no longer FEAR the dead on the battlefield a change occurs ~ the ending of Vietnam was one example. The latter may sound heartless, but wars are fuelled through peoples' FEARS and are ended through peoples' UNDERSTANDING.

It is a human trait (a survival instinct if you like) to become hardened to a set of circumstances and a main weapon for beating FEAR. The threat of terrorism has been around for a long time, even before 9/11. We had already conquered our FEAR over the Lockerbie disaster and the various embassy bombings of the last century; they had become part of our existence. The controlling influences knew that another bombing in a far away place would not advance their agenda, so they brought it closer to home, in plain view of the ones they wish to control through FEAR ~ 9/11. This new FEAR has now fuelled two wars.

For thousands of years they have been working underground finding new ways to instill FEAR into a very powerful, spiritual people ~ the Human Race. I have read many questions asking 'Why don't they show themselves? Why do they remain underground? If they thrive on FEAR why don't they come to the surface and scare us shitless? The answer is simple. Once you get used to their form, the way they look and realize what their agenda is, you will no longer FEAR them.

FEAR will turn to anger; anger will transpose itself into a need to put things right; just like the ending of Vietnam. If this occurs, their power over the masses will subside. At the moment it suits their agenda to remain in hiding, away from public gaze and only appear once in a while to scare us using a guerilla tactic of FEAR. In the meantime they employ world Government allies to do their bidding.

What is fear? Basically it is a feeling that spirals from the pit of our stomachs. What is joy and love? It is a feeling the spirals from the pit of our stomachs. It is the same feeling, but interpreted in different ways depending on the situation laid before us. It is the individual that interprets this, not an external force.

From childhood this one feeling has been manipulated by them, we have been raised on a diet of FEAR. FEAR of your elders, FEAR of authority, FEAR of the education establishment. Authority and FEAR run hand-in-hand. This has been part of the reptilian agenda since they first appeared - a 'get them whilst they're young' tactic.

So how do we beat FEAR? Again the answer is simple and they know it too. A feeling is not something that's technical, computerized or a complicated mathematical equation (that's part of the reptilian agenda). It is a basic instinct, as natural as snow falling on icy peaks. It is something we have personal control over ~ and they know that too. All we have to do is get used to it.

Each of us has the ability to conquer our FEARS through the understanding of that simple, little feeling in the pit of our stomachs. You can do it now, this very moment. There is no charge, no cost involved ~ it is one of our primordial skills.

Firstly SMILE; yes smile to yourself (Greys can't smile, reptilians don't know the true meaning of 'smile'). Whilst you are smiling, breathe in deeply through your nose and exhale through your mouth. Still smiling, Close your eyes, picture FEAR as a dying tree, its branches broken and jagged. Now, feel the pulse of your heartbeat and imagine your body is resonating to that pulse (you must keep that smile at all times). Picture the dying tree again, but this time imagine new leaves unfurling from every branch. Stay with this scene until you can see a full and vibrant canopy. Your smile has now probably led you to chuckle. The moment of 'chuckle' is the moment you have transposed that feeling of FEAR. You will also notice a warming glow or a 'butterflies' feeling from the pit of your stomach. A simple exercise that can be carried out anywhere.

In the beginning, however, surround yourself with like-minded friends you can trust. We have all heard about the 'veil' that has been placed over this world, the shroud that stops us from tuning into the cosmos and our kindred from afar and within. Well, this veil is the FEAR created by their agenda. This veil is easily opened, on a personal level, by transposing FEAR into joy. Simple, easy and devastating to those who wish to control you through it.

Say goodbye to the reptilian control freaks and their brainwashed allies. Every time you face a fearful experience, imagine that tree with its unfurling canopy. The proof you are powerful is all already here. They have been trying to seal their agenda for thousands of years, but subconsciously we have thwarted their attempts by acclimatizing to their FEAR at every turn. It is now time to manifest our skills of turning FEAR into joy and love on a conscious level. FEAR is the KEY and turning the key is the most easiest and basic of exercises.

This is a neat little piece about the healing properties of color. Whether you call the use of color "magic" or not is up to you, but I work with color all the time for healing injuries on myself and others. It works!

The key thing to remember is that red is warming and blue is cooling. You don't want to use red when you have a fever or have inflammation. Likewise, you don't want to use blue if someone is suffering from hypothermia.

Green is a sterilizing color that is useful for just about everything. It clears out negative energy, infection, and contagion.

Purple is a bit strong to use, but it is extremely powerful in a spiritual sense. If you need to focus on psychic self-defense because negative energies are coming at you, purple is king! Actually, I prefer to use a color called electric violet. Picture a deep violet with lots of electrical energy running through it, perhaps envisioning the color gold within it. This is a lovely shielding and defense color that really sends negative entitites packing.

Lipstick Mystic Featured on Front Page of Today's Trenton Times

Some weeks back, a reporter from the police desk at the Trenton Times contacted me for some quotes about a scam artist who goes by the name "Yanna." She's been operating in Princeton, New Jersey for many years. She advertises as a "psychic reader," but really, she's someone from the old negative gypsy tradition. The negative gypsies like to tell people that their auras are black, they are cursed, and they must pay thousands - if not tens of thousands - of dollars to the gypsy to remove the negativity from their life.

This is an ancient gypsy scam, by the way, and it operates in every town in America. It has nothing to do with the authentic psychics, healers, and spiritual practitioners out there. Unfortunately, these are the people who get arrested all the time and give the whole field of psychic work a bad name.

Rehydration Formula Might Save Your Life

With all of the terrible damage from recent tsnumais fresh on everyone's minds, one news agent at RumorMillNews.com made this important post yesterday about how rehydration becomes the key survival technique if you have survived a disaster and are still waiting for food, medical supplies, and so forth to arrive.

I recommend printing out copies of this simple rehydration formula and making sure that you stock the supplies, because you never know - those Earth changes that many people have been predicting may well be on their way! Hopefully not, of course. Still, it always pays to learn how to be self-sufficient in the event of ANY disaster situation - whether man-made or nature-made.

If you can rehydrate, even if you haven't yet received medical care, chances of surviving a disaster go way, way up. So this is a very important formula that may well save your life or a loved one's life, if you are (God and Goddess forbid) unfortunate enough to find yourself in a disaster situation. Make several copies and store them in a safe place!

Today I spent an hour at my favorite coffeehouse, scribbling away on my latest horoscope column, hoping that the caffeine in my pot of Earl Gray tea would jump-start my brain and inspire the 40 or so jokes I have to work into each weekly Cosmic Butt Kick. Let me tell you, some weeks, it ain't easy. I feel like I'm doing a fresh comedy routine each week, only that would be easier. First I have to research all the astrological information on what the planets are doing. Then I have to spend hours looking up recent news events and getting my facts straight. Then I throw it all together and create a unique cosmic gumbo that, hopefully, will be tasty to readers and put a smile on their face. Writing this column is the big hurdle of the week, the thing that takes up all of my thoughts and energy. Any other work I'm trying to do comes after and around that.

While I appreciate having the opportunity to reach readers through my syndicated column, I also appreciate being paid. And, sometimes, clients just "forget" to pay me. The arts weeklies who are kind enough to publish me are all struggling, and some months, that advertising revenue doesn't come in as quickly as the accounting department might like, and my invoices get "misplaced." Still, my column is published each week, along with my byline, so I can at least have the satisfaction? pride? misplaced sense of hubris? that I can still call myself a professional writer. Even if you're paid pennies, or, as has been the case lately, a dribble of pennies every other month or so, you're still a professional. Besides writing the column, I'm constantly submitting proposals and "spec" material to other publications - magazines, websites, newspapers - you name it. And, oh, yes, I've been involved with a ludicrous and exhausting "chase for fame" over the past two years. I've written four book proposals, which is like writing your dissertation four times - not a pleasant process. With all the marketing research, outlines, PR material, and sample chapters I had to include, all available brain cells were taken up with creating that stuff. The chase for fame is winding down now, thank goodness. Life is returning to some semblance of sanity.

Some.

At the coffeehouse today I bumped into my buddy Rudy, a friendly, sharp and creative fellow whom I chat with a couple of times each month. We've had some lovely discussions over the past two years that I've known him, rambling on about everything from child-rearing to psychology to religion. Along the way, I've kept him updated about the latest blow-by-blow of my publishing misadventures. He's my cheerleader, always egging me on, encouraging my efforts. Today he was excited to see me. I would have enjoyed chatting with him for a while, but, alas, I was on another deadline and my brains were fried. No circuits were free for random chit-chat, and he sensed that. He sweetly wiped a table clean of crumbs for me so I could spread out all of my notebooks and messy papers (the detritus of the writer.) He asked me, "So tell me, are you successful yet? I'm rooting for you! I want to see your name up in lights."

Am I successful yet?

Well, I woke up healthy, well-fed, housed in a nice home, next to my honey and surrounded by adoring cats. That's successful.

I woke up without depleted uranium polluting my environment and ruining my neighborhood's health for the next century or so (unlike some people in Iraq and Afghanistan.)

I woke up knowing that, much as the power of censorship is alive and well, I could express myself openly and fully, in written or spoken form, without fear of arrest (at least for the moment.)

I do feel very blessed and abundant in all of the things that really count, and I truly give thanks for these things every day. And I know that Rudy, bless his heart, was just eager for the latest update about my TV and book publishing adventures. But it's funny - all I could think was - what creates success? Is it something we define for ourselves, or is it something we allow others to define for us? Is it an inner state or an outer one? Is it ours, or does it belong to somebody else? Is it an experience we are having or an experience others are having about us?

Am I unsuccessful because I don't have a TV show in development based on my unpublished memoir, even though a producer pitched it last year and might pitch it again sometime in 2004?

Am I unsuccessful because I haven't won the lottery lately? (Or ever, for that matter.) Does my lack of millions mean that I'm a failure? I haven't been able to loll about naked, fondling oodles of cash in recent months. Does that mean I'm a complete loser?

What about the approbation of people in the New York publishing world? As my proposals made the round last year, a good percentage of the editors who saw my stuff said I was a great writer and they'd love to publish me, but when they took my material to their sales director, marketing staff, and PR people, those folks said that they didn't think I had a big enough readership to guarantee that my book could "break out" in its category. That one was a head scratcher. I have over 2 million readers. I am the author of over 3000 professionally published columns, articles, essays, and humor pieces. I've appeared on dozens of radio stations and will be on many more in the years to come. What do you need, exactly, to land a book contract with a major publisher? Is it even possible anymore for people whose last name doesn't happen to be Clinton to receive a book contract, with even the customary average advance of $10,000 (15% of which goes to your literary agent?)

Am I not successful because of other people's lack of vision, commitment, passion, or "enthusiasm? " (That's the stock response of editors when they don't like your stuff. "Thanks for the opportunity to read this, but I'm afraid it didn't generate sufficient enthusiasm to justify a contract at this time.") Just how does a book proposal generate "enthusiasm?" Does it need to come equipped with a little cheerleader inside who will jump up and down while waving her pom-poms? If so, I wasn't informed about it. Guess I missed the boat on that one.

It was a very heady and exhausting two years, expecting a publishing or TV contract any moment and ending up with, well, the experience of having been, by turns, hopeful, exhausted, and then resigned. This January an editor was dangling a potential six figure deal in front of me and made noises about doing a series with me. What teases they all are.

How happy I am to have my life back, quiet though it is. My immediate sphere of influence is currently devoid of managers, agents, and publicists, and I have to say that I like it very much.

Self-publishing is now more affordable, available, and practical than it has ever been. And when you have a 30 book series like I do that you're working on, and nobody else is willing to pony up any cash to help you birth your babies, you just gotta do it yourself.

Loyal readers, please be patient. My website should be up by the end of August or early September at the latest. Meanwhile, books and articles and lots of fun stuff are on their way. **Editor's Note: As of August 2004, my website has been up. http://www.lipstickmystic.com.

I've just had to do a lot of adapting as various other pathways to publication have dried up. Oh, I could have kept submitting my material through the nice agent I was working with at the end. Many smaller, quirky publishers would have probably loved my stuff. They would have paid me $2000-$10,000 and it would have taken two years before the book came out. I'd still be expected to do all of the marketing myself, and there would be no guarantee that my book would ever make it to bookstores, much less be sitting on the shelves for more than three months. (The average release doesn't stay in a store long. If the books aren't flying off the shelves into the hands of eager customers, they tend to get remaindered and shipped back to the warehouse.)

I've realized that my level of commitment about getting these works into print is very high. I'm not willing to barter with my soul or my creative energy, allowing others to control the sales, marketing, and distribution process. (Especially when there's zero money in it if I do it their way, anyway.)

Sigh.

So I didn't really know what to tell Rudy when he asked "Are you successful yet?" meaning "Have others trumpeted your talents and desireability to the world?" I think success has a different definition.

Success is being a sovereign being whom nobody else owns, controls, harms, or limits. Success is taking your message to the people directly and letting them decide if they like it. I've made a lot of adjustments to my attitude over the past six months. I'm no longer waiting for Hollywood to call. Well, I shouldn't say that. I did just email my producer friend to see if she is still interested in pitching my material for the 2005 season. She has a new sitcom on the fall lineup for 2004, which is great, but I don't know if that means there's no room to do my project or if it just means she'd like to pitch it as a season replacement or alternative project. Or maybe my Hollywood karma is all dried up. That's okay, too. I was never too certain of it, anyway.

There are many ways to reach people. There are many ways to spread love, laughter, and ideas. I'll get there, one way or another. And, if my soul remains intact, I'll consider myself a success. That's what it's all about - honoring your spirit's yearnings and the inspiration of the heart, and not letting anybody steal them away from you.

Pale Male, the New York City Hawk, and Hawk Talk

Pale Male, part of a pair of hawks who live on a rooftop in New York City, has had his nest restored. Apparently, the board members who run the building had decided to remove the nest, but bird supports like Mary Tyler Moore and Paula Zahn protested. Now Pale Male and his lady bird can remain in their home.

I remember a few years ago when my honey and I were staying at the Ritz-Carlton in New York, in a room facing Central Park South. We were doing some shamanic work on the park, closing up negative vortices and so forth. It was a cold but beautiful New Year's Day, and it was snowing outside. The city was quiet for the holiday, and a lovely stillness permeated the air.

When you stay at the Ritz-Carlton and face Central Park, the hotel provides a telescope so you can watch birds coming and going in the Park. We didn't realize it, but there's quite a population of wild birds there.

The neat thing we discovered was that a red-tailed hawk was sitting on a branch directly opposite our room in a tall tree, the snowflakes falling gently on him, and he seemed to know exactly what we were up to. Hawks are very attuned to spiritual energy, and this one seemed like an experienced city hawk. He was gorgeous. I "heard" him voicing his approval of the healing work we were doing that day, which was great. He sat directly opposite our room for the entire four hour healing session. After we were done, he seemed to say, "Good work," and then he flew away.

I don't know if it was Pale Male that was watching us that day, but I have great admiration for these amazing birds and their incredible energy. I'm so glad that Pale Male's home was restored to him.

The Differences Between Refined Salt, Sea Salt, and Celtic Sea Salt

This is an article by Stephanie Relfe about how our bodies need salt - the RIGHT kind of salt. Most of the salt we use is overly refined and doesn't have the accompanying minerals that our bodies need to stay healthy. She doesn't recommend using regular sea salt - which is available in stores but can ALSO be overly refined, with all the minerals stripped out. She talks about the merits of Celtic sea salt, which is a different type of sea salt that still contains the vital nutrients our bodies need to stay healthy.

She also quotes some intriguing data from researchers about how a low-salt diet can actually be harmful for you - and how it doesn't always relieve high blood pressure.

It would appear that it's all about the type of salt we are using. Again, just as with flour, water, and many other things that we take in as food or drink, much of what Western culture is eating or drinking has been stripped of fiber, minerals, and other important ingredients which our bodies need to fully absorb the GOOD things from our foods and beverages.

The Kabbalah and Cults

This is a wonderful article in The Guardian which talks about both sides of the "cult" issue. You'll read about some of the experiences that people have had when they got involved with the new Kabbalah movement (which is actually a reinterpretation of the ancient wisdom of Qabbala, which isn't really Jewish - it comes out of the ancient Eastern mystery traditions....anyway. I could go on and on!) And this article also describes the work of Rick Ross, a New Jersey-based cult deprogrammer whose work with cult members has been ground-breaking.

Many things are cults - including all bureaucracies, all religions, the military, etc. Any social structure which requires you to pledge blind obedience to a higher authority is a cult. Period.

The "how to" of learning how to maintain spiritual sovereignty is one which is rarely explored in our culture. If we were all fully "deprogrammed," society as we know it wouldn't exist. We would be basing the way we live on principles of mutual respect and a much stronger, humane, attitude about the sanctity of all living things.

Needless to say - we're not there yet. So for now, we allow cults to proliferate and encourage our children to join them (often in the interests of being a "good citizen" or a "patriot.")

When you pledge allegiance to a cult, you are aligning your soul's energy with the negative entities who are the TRUE heads of all "cults." And that's a big problem. Those vows, contracts, and agreements carry on through future lifetimes and can be very tricky to get rid of (especially since many people haven't yet realized the truth about past lives.)

Jesus, for instance, did not intend to form a cult when he taught people how to practice miracles, engage in active faith, and to love one another.

The structure that was formed AROUND Jesus is the cult. Most of Jesus' real teachings have been passed through the gnostic sects only, which pass on their wisdom through oral tradition. The gnostic traditions have always encouraged the individual's ability to attain direct spiritual communication with God/Goddess/the Holy Spirit and the saints and masters. Learning to get spiritually "online" in this way is the best protection against losing your sovereignty or giving away your energy to cults.

But THAT one isn't taught in school.

When you place your faith, your spiritual sovereignty, in a "proxy" such as your President, your Pope, your General, that's when you get into trouble. Your soul is no longer your own because you have abdicated responsibility for its evolution. Plus, you've hooked into questionable energies, influences, and entities who do NOT wish you to reclaim your spiritual sovereignty - and who, instead, want to see you plunged further into chaotic energies, which serve as their food.

Study Finds Acupuncture Relieves Arthritis Pain

Acupuncture is based on the principle that energy flows through the body via certain lines or "meridians," and that blockages in these meridians create illness and discomfort. By placing needles carefully on different pressure points, the energy flow is restored to the body.

I've never had acupuncture myself but know many people who have had great benefit from it. (I'm still working on getting over my own needle issues!)

What's great is that, even though arthritis sufferers have had a lot of bad news lately with the announcements that many arthritis drugs increase the risks of heart attacks and strokes, this encouraging information about acupuncture was just released through the mainstream media. Studies have been done that prove that arthritis discomfort, particularly osteoarthritis of the knee, is significantly reduced through acupuncture.

Those of us who have been in the holistic health field are like "Well, duh! What did you think --people were just making this whole thing up?"

It's amazing how little credit is given to alternative medicine, even though it is often a lot safer than many allopathic (traditional) medical treatments. It's especially useful for chronic conditions like joint pain, depression, inflammation, back pain, and other things that mainstream medicine can't usually fix. All of those problems are about energy blockages in the body. If you want to just dull the pain, take commerical pain relievers. If you want to end the pain AND resolve the energy blockage which created the pain in the first place, then treatments like acupuncture are the way to go. Acupuncture is a marvelous, real, remedy.

Happy Yule and Mercury Goes Direct

Happy winter solstice, everyone. Today is a sacred and powerful day, so do take some time to meditate, connect with inner calm, and just generally welcome in some strong spiritual energies. It's a great day for prayer, for visualization, and for working on setting intentions about what you want to magnetize into your life for the next three months (that time frame between now and the spring equinox in mid-March.)

Also, Mercury is out of retrograde, which will make all of our thinking processes run more smoothly. If you've had "foggy head" for a few weeks, you can thank Mercury for gumming up the works! But now tasks like writing, public speaking, and chatting on the phone will flow a lot easier. This is good for us writer types like me! (I've definitely had foggy head this month.)

We have our Christmas celebrations a bit backwards here in the Western world. The sacred battery power of Spirit is more accessible today, the day of the winter solstice (also called Yule.) Today should be our holiday (or "holy day," which is where the word originates.) Instead, we celebrate Christmas on the 25th. The REAL energy of Spirit is opening up today, at a time when most of us are too preoccupied with baking cookies, making travel plans, or wrapping packages. (Or in my case, absorbing celebrity gossip to create my latest weekly newspaper column. I swear, if I have to read one more article about that empty-headed Jessica Simpson, I may LOSE my cookies.)

Don't get so lost in the rush this week that you forget to access the wonderful energy of this time. This energy will remain active throughout the week, but it's strongest today. Any activities like prayer, meditation, shamanic journeying, and healing work will all be lovely to do today, as will any artistic endeavors.

Are You a "First Wave" Indigo?

I found this short piece about "first wave Indigos" at a website. I'm quoting the excerpt verbatim here with the attribution at the bottom. Take a peek at the list and see if you or somebody you know might be a "first wave Indigo."

- Very sensitive, sometimes "Hyper Sensitive" and may not be able to distinguish between the emotional fields of those around them and their own personal emotions.

- May go through periods of apathy and cynicism as coping mechanisms.

- Intense longing for "their own kind"….Soul Mates…but don't know where to look.

- Because of being misunderstood and then betrayed, may develop strong trust issues, and therefore keep many of their thoughts, feelings and opinions to themselves.

- About 30% have difficulties expressing themselves, especially in writing.

- Very disciplined when properly motivated.

- Get bored and or frustrated in school.

- Male Indigos (and many Females) for the most part don't "do authority" very well because most of the time they are smarter than those in authority.

- Have a strong sense of truth, ethics, justice and freedom. (That is why "authority figures" many times irritate and frustrate them).

- Many are labeled "Dyslexic" and find themselves in "Special Classes" at school that usually never work for them.

- Indigos have a strong desire to know "why" …and if they don't see "the point" in something, (or if is it isn't explained properly), will feel it is simply not worth their time/ energy and will either react with resistance or just simply "blow off" the people/things that seem not worth their time and energy.

- Innately have their own ways of calculation and many have been accused of cheating in school because they do the answers in their head and cannot show their work.

- Indigos have an evolved awareness of how things work, therefore, many of the rigid rules and methods of learning Math, English, and Physics (NOT metaphysics or quantum physics) make no sense to them.

- All First wave Indigos have what might be termed as "A Gift of Healing" ....whether it is making people feel better with their humor and wit, hands on healing, animal and plant healing, healing with music and tone, or healing with new "unproven" methods.. …some of which are natural and need no external training for.

- Many Indigos have "Telepathic Healing" abilities and long distances make no difference to the efficiency of their work.

- Because of their expanded perception, unusual creativity, wanting to try new things, and running way ahead of what is being taught in class, many were diagnosed as having Attention Deficit Disorder, and put on Ritalin as children.

- Most Indigo's (especially males) have a high innate aptitude for computers/electronics and or auto mechanics. It is common for them to "Just Know" how to operate and trouble shoot with very little help from a book or an instructor.

- First Wave Indigo's are extremely creative, and express this innate skill in many (and often times OUTRAGEOUS forms.) These skills manifest in: Drawing, Painting, Sculpting, Decorating, Photography, Writing (in sometimes very extreme and unique ways), Making Blueprints and Prototypes, Composing and Playing Music….(even if they have never had lessons), inventing games, and creating new & more efficient ways of doing things.

- Very few Indigos are interested in aggressive sports such as Football and Hockey. They would rather spend their physical exercise time and energy in personal achievement and outdoor sports such as track & field, skateboarding, mountain climbing, cycling, kayaking, etc. They are also attracted to discipline and self-defense sports such as Fencing and Martial Arts.

- Because of their feeling so foreign to this planet, a very high percentage of Indigos have been put on "Antidepressants" to make them appear "Normal" and fit in our society….this is just a temporary fix though, and only adds to their challenges.

- Feel like they could be one of the characters on the 1980's television series "The Misfits of Science" or one of the young people in Xavier's school for the gifted in the recent movies from the comic books "The X-Men."

- Many Indigos are drawn to Theatrics, Drama, and Stand-up Comedy. In these venues they can "pretend to be someone else" when actually they are using this as an outlet to vent and express their own views and pent up emotions. It is also a place for "misfits" to find a place of refuge and "fit in".

- Because of their feeling so "alien" here, many go through periods of severe grief, loneliness, and displacement…..and may turn to drugs, alcohol, or attempt suicide for a way out.

- One trademark that a high % of First Wave Indigos have, is living through extreme hardships as children, teenagers, and young adults. Many were born into family situations that were physically, emotionally, spiritually and psychically abusive. These Indigos had to figure out how to balance and keep their inherent integrity levels, while being subjected to painful and life shattering experiences. A large % were inplanted in such horrendous situations as: organized crime, physical abuse, sexual abuse, and even ritual/cult abuse & mind control.

- It is also common for First Wave Indigos to have some kind of Alien encounters.

Editor's note: I seem to fit about 80% of these qualities, so perhaps I'm not so much a first wave indigo as an indigo with polka dots or stripes of a different color.

Dr. Wayne Dyer, one of my personal favorites, has an eight part lecture that is very good there. And there are many other wonderful teachers there speaking and writing on all manner of neat things.

Are Pets Psychic or Just Extra-Sensitive?

I've mentioned Rupert Sheldrake's work before, but just as a reminder, he's the researcher who has done a huge amount of work researching the psychic nature of animals. In my life, I've found that most of the cats I've had have had very strong psychic ability. If I mentally send them clear images, emotions, and information, they always "get" what I tell them. This is pretty amazing. Since poor Teddy had his partial tail amputation the other day, I've been doing a lot of healing work on him and also working very carefully to explain to him what happened. I've found that if you explain to animals stuff like, "I have to take to you for a short visit to the vet today for a checkup to make sure you're not sick, but I promise to bring you right home in an hour" that they GET it. It helps them to settle down and not complain so much when you have to stuff them in the cat carrier, disrupt their day, and drag them off to the doctor.

After Teddy's operation, I gradually explained what had happened to him. When I told him these words telepathically, "You had to have part of your tail removed, Teddy," he started and reacted just like a person would react. Five seconds before he had been gently purring and cuddling on top of me. You see, he's been wearing this big collar thing around his neck to prevent him from really looking at his hindquarters so that he won't lick or dig back there until his wound has time to heal. So I realized I needed to clearly state what had happened so he'd fully understand. Well, he got it, all right! The poor guy immediately understood. He appeared a bit gloomy after that, but I focused on giving him lots of encouragement and nurturing energy, and he soon perked up again.

Animals are such amazing companions, they will follow you through fire. As long as you can maintain the bond of trust, communication, and love, even when something bad happens, a pet and his owner can make it through just fine.

Six Media Conglomerates Control Everything You Read, Listen To, and Watch

You know how the conspiracy theorists are always going on and on about how the media is heavily controlled by dark "Illuminati" players and how the power structures of the world are centered in the hands of very few people?

It's kind of scary to note that six media conglomerates really do control the flow of the media throughout the world. I found this to be true in book publishing, where the big guys gradually bought out all the little guys. So now, for instance, you might buy a book published by Hyperion Books, but they're no longer an independent company. They are owned by the same people who own ABC and Disney, among other companies.

It would be awfully easy to control the flow of what gets published, produced, and broadcast if you were one of the six owners of these conglomerates.
