Positive Thinking Isn't Just Being Airy-Fairy

Lately, I've been finding the holistic health/alternative/New Age "movement" breaking into two main "camps."

You have your airy-fairy white lighters who just tell you to think positive, and everything will be all right.

And you have your heavy duty conspiracy theorist types who are telling you that the world is going to hell in a hand basket and there's nothing you can do about it.

This should tell you right away that the most sane, logical, and realistic place to be is somewhere in the middle. The balance point or place of harmony is somewhere where you remain grounded in a realistic sense of the worst that MAY happen, but it's also a vantage point from which you maintain a conscious, clearly-directed focus on embracing a more positive outcome.

There's always a grain of truth or a bit of authenticity in every belief system, and I think it's great to study all points of view. But I'm growing more and more concerned lately about my "sisters and brothers" in the metaphysical community, who seem to be drowning in "shadow" lately. I find that I don't have much in common with them anymore.

Yes, there is darkness in the world. Does obsessing about it solve this problem? No.

Introducing a different energy, using it in a conscious way, and extending, maintaining, and expanding it.......namely, focusing on peace, love, lightness of being....is, for me, the only way to overcome darkness.

It's not an airy fairy pretense sort of thing where you're "faking it."

It's a conscious spiritual practice of accessing energies within yourself that are lighter and more loving and inclusive, and then extending this practice outwards into the things you are doing with your life.

Here's a USA Today article which describes optimism vs. pessmism and the very real health implications of each.

Although most of us are neither 100% optimistic or 100% pessimistic, reviewing this information can be very helpful. You start to see that if being optimistic really improves physical health and emotional health....might it not have larger implications? That an extended net of those feelings spread across the world, a vibration consciously set forth from our hearts expanded outwards into other hearts throughout creation...that that might be much more important than we realize.

I believe that New Age authors, teachers, and website owners have a responsibility to check themselves.....to realize that there will ALWAYS be Chicken Littles screaming that the sky is falling, the sky is falling.

But perhaps, when you look closely, it's just the sky falling on Chicken Little's head.....not on your own. If you can avoid getting caught up in the emotional and psychic contagion of disaster consciousness, maybe YOU won't be the one experiencing disaster.

Thoughts and emotions are energy...and once the energy gathers force on the inner plane, it becomes EVENTS ACTED OUT IN THE PHYSICAL WORLD.

We MUST be more conscious of what energies we are playing with....what energies we are perpetuating...and what energies we are sending out into creation.

I, for once, am always on the side of love, laughter, and peace.

I invite you to join me and to help offset the naysayers and the prophets of doom.

Decide what reality YOU want to be a part of...and then be conscious of your creation.

Wabi Sabi Simple by Richard R. Powell

Recently, the PR people at Adams Media were kind enough to send me a review copy of a new book that is coming out in a couple of weeks. It will be available in stores in mid-December 2004. It's called Wabi Sabi Simple and is written by a gentleman named Richard R. Powell.

Wabi Sabi, loosely explained, is the Japanese version of feng shui....a way of aligning yourself with the harmonious energies of life and the Earth.

Powell's book is a neat creation, filled with simple essays, recipes, and examples of how you can apply this life-affirming concept to your daily activities, embodying it more as a principle in your life. I like what I have read so far.

I will continue to read the book and think about getting in touch with Mr. Powell for a guest interview or an guest essay at LipstickMystic.com.

Meanwhile, here is a brief piece that ran on Fox about Wabi Sabi and its adherents.

Holiday Madness as an Opportunity to Experience Wellness

This article offers an interesting and balanced perspective on all of those crazy holiday rituals we usually find ourselves immersed in at this time of year. If you feel somehow out of step with the enforced rituals and tribal expections of this holiday season, you'll resonate with the material presented here.

What Happens When You Find Your Soulmate?

We live in a Disney-influenced world where we are conditioned to expect Prince or Princess Charming to show up on a white horse and sweep us away into a perfect world without wrinkles or problems. But, as many soulmate seekers have found out, soulmate relationships pose their own, unique challenges.

I like this brief piece that a healer couple has written about how soulmate relationships challenge us to grow....not remain static. I have to agree with them! I've been blessed to know many soulmates throughout my life, from family members to friends to boyfriends. And each one of them has helped me to learn important things about my own woundedness, my imperfections. Soulmates help to cast a light on "stuff" that we need to work out. That's why they show up in our life, to light a fire under us and stimulate our growth on all levels.

But there's so much love in a soulmate relationship that this growth process can be fun and adventurous.

Take a look. This site has many interesting articles about soulmate relationships.

Eavesdrop On a Discussion About Angels

"Synchronicity" (or web surfing, in this case) can be so much fun. I was searching online for people's real life experiences with angels and came across this inspiring thread. In this line of discussion, people discuss their own encounters with angels and angelic energies. One thing they talk about is bright lights or "dots" which are sometimes the way people perceive angelic forms.

I call them "sparkies," and I've been seeing them ever since my spiritual awakening as a teenager. And no, there's nothing wrong with my eyes:) Other people see them, too! Sparkies are little blobs or flashes of light, sometimes blue, silver, white, or gold.....and they often show up when we feel inspired or joyful about something. Sometimes they just appear as a pin prick of light that flashes in front of you or off in your peripheral vision. Other times, they work a little harder at attracting your attention. My honey once saw what he called a "bumblebee sparky" when he was doing some work...this slow-moving, purposefully blob of beautiful light ambled along in front of his line of vision and then disappeared. I've seen those, too. They move kind of like bumblebees, unhurried, seemingly happy, and vibrating.

Anyway, by "eavesdropping" on these people's online chat at this forum, you'll get a taste for how sparkies and angels often manifest.

It's Still Angel Time!

This is a neat site with some great info about angels - how to communicate with them, work and play with them, and understand their special role in our lives.

You can never have too much of the angels - that's why I felt inspired to make a second post about them in this blog today.

It's Angel Time!

There are many different traditions associated with communicating with angels. When learning about the angels, it's best to read different material to see which information resonates with you. If you get a joyful "Ah ha!" feeling, then you're usually tapping into material that is appropriate for you to work with.

I liked this essay which talks about some of the archangels and how they help people. As with all things metaphysical, use your own discernment to test if this information feels right to you.

One thing is for sure - angels are real, and they are amazing, infinitely loving helpers who will always brighten your day.

Paula Langguth and Thoughts on Abundance

My recent articles about abundance and writing new moon checks to enhance the flow of well-being in our lives have been stirring up intense responses in people. I've been receiving everything from "I can't believe how wonderfully these techniques worked!" to "I blame you for making me lose money from trying this technique!"

One thing is for sure, money issues are very highly charged within all of us. I feel that although there are other challenges that we face in the areas of improving our health and our relationships, money is still the "killer" topic that can be hardest for us to grow around.

But I will never ascribe to the "blame game" or the "victim consciousness" mindset that so often sets in when people start working with abundance issues. This is when you make a half-assed effort at shifting your abundance energy around and spend more time obsessing about how much money you DON'T have or how much you have FEAR around money or how much you feel that GOD TELLS ME MONEY IS BAD/OR I'LL INCUR BAD KARMA IF I CREATE MORE MONEY IN MY LIFE.

Pardon me, but that's all bull pattooties. (Did I spell that right? Spell check doesn't pick that one up for some reason!)

I believe that we need to assume responsibility for the vibrations that we have set up in our lives and to keep consciously working through blocks, emotional booby-traps, and those subconscious saboteurs like tribal programming, vows of poverty, and religious beliefs that are still having us equate having money with experiencing suffering.....or having us think that we can't be "good" AND have money.

Again - that's a bunch of bull pattooties. The only God I've ever glimpsed in all of my prayers, visions, meditations, and creative acts is one of infinite abundance. Sure, there is polarity in this third dimensional reality, but this third dimensional reality is just one dimension. To limit your understanding about abundance to the map that THIS world has laid out for you is to remain STUCK in mundane patterns, bound up in a world of limitation, starved of spiritual oxygen.

The dynamic force of creation lives within us, permeates every atom of our being, and you can call this the Quantum Force if you want to....but it's real. And THAT force knows NO limitation.

Please know that I'm not just talking theory here, folks. I've been blessed throughout the time I've been consciously walking a spiritual path to be a part of MANY miraculous events, things that "logic" or third dimensional consciousness would say SIMPLY AREN'T POSSIBLE.

And as the fourth dimensional (some would say fifth dimensional) energies continue to land here, creating more and more of an overlay into this one (and that's what's happening on this planet now with greater and greater momentum)....miracles are going to be something we ALL create. Easily. Effortlessly. And with tremendous joy.

One fun way to play with miracles is with money flow....but you can also create wonderful events, situations, and objects showing up in your life that have nothing to do with money.

Sometimes, we're more blocked with receiving in one area of our lives than the others.

I, for one, appear to be VERY TALENTED at manifesting an abundance of cats. At the moment, we have eight. If we're not careful, there will be more :)

Sometimes, we only allow abundance into our lives in ways which truly give us joy. And if having money is something we've learned to equate with suffering....as in "The only way I'll have more money is if I work 90 hours a week, and the very thought of that depresses and exhausts me, so I'm going to forego that and, as a result, bypass the receipt of any more money."......You see how that starts to create this equation in your head? HAVING MONEY = SUFFERING = I DON'T WANT SUFFERING = SO I DON'T WANT MONEY.

So the real challenge is to shift our beliefs around, navigate through the maze of those belief patterns we've absorbed and created, and to find a way to sneak abundance in around the edges.

Paula Langguth Ryan is a gifted healer and writer who has come up with a list of simple (yet challenging) steps, a "21 Days to Abundance" article. She shares some marvelous exercises that, if you follow them, will help you learn to attune yourself to a vibration of plenty....instead of lack. Consider it a type of psychic retraining.

We could all benefit from following such a regimen as she lays out here.

Aromatherapy as a Healing Tool, Hot Tubs

I was indulging in one of my favorite activities last night.....we're blessed to have one of those old-fashioned tubs in our upstairs bathroom, since this house was built 100 years ago. (We also have a shower downstairs, thank goodness!) I used to live in a tiny bachelorette apartment that had one of these tubs, and while it was a bitch to wash your hair in, it was beyond lovely to use for relaxing salt soaks.

So I acquired the habit of regularly putting sea salt, some baking soda, and occasionally, essential oils into the tub and soaking in it for about a half hour. This really clears out all of the electromagnetic goop that clings to us throughout the day. I find that even working in front of the computer all day creates this slightly icky feeling of having electric crud sticking to my energy field. So it's always nice to get a hot tub at the end of the day.

We're exposed to so many forms of non-organic electricity, stuff that our ancestors never had to absorb into their systems. I believe that electrical disturbance or electricity sensitivity is one of those silent pandemics that is causing more disease than people realize. And yet, we have to live in buildings with electricity unless we want to go the Grizzly Adams route and live in a log cabin. (Not for everyone!) So learning how to clear our bodies out of non-organic (not natural to the body) electricity really becomes important.

A shower or a splash in the pool will help to clear you out, but at least once a week or so, it's great if you can soak in a hot tub filled with salt and baking soda. The combination of the two really demagnetizes all that electrical crud that sticks to you throughout the week.

Aromatherapy is another fascinating aspect to apply to your tub time....aromatherapy oils are highly concentrated and can burn the skin if not diluted with a neutral oil like almond or apricot oil (as happens with massage oil.) But you can use several drops of essential oil in your tub to give your soak an extra kick. Sandalwood, frankincense, lavender, and amber are some of my favorites, party because they smell so good and have such a high vibration, spiritually speaking. They quickly transport you to a peaceful, meditative place.

Here is a short article about aromatherapy oils which will tell you more about how this healing tradition evolved.

How to Engage in Power Prayer

I've posted some inspiring words from American Zen teacher Cheri Huber on how the quality of our lives is determined by the focus of our attention. Please do take a moment and read it if you haven't already. You can find it on my home page next to the little rainbow graphic.

Then please take a look at my short article, How To Pray Successfully. Just look for the graphic of the girl praying on my home page. You'll find it there.

People are always asking me how true magic or "power prayer" works. And the combination of these two articles should give you some helpful tools to add to your spiritual practice.

And they work! I'm talking real magic here, performed in accordance with divine law, not any kind of black magic or use of bad spirits or any of that occult gutter stuff.

Consider it "white magic," aligning yourself with the creative intelligence of God/Goddess/Great spirit.

Have fun!

Article on the Silver Cord And The Near Death Experience

I thought it interesting that Bill Clinton told reporters that he had had his own version of a near-death experience during his recent heart surgery. Apparently, the surgery was more serious than had been reported at the time. I believe he was without a heartbeat for some 70 minutes. During that time, he saw images of his life, including light bubbles with the faces of loved ones Hillary and Chelsea floating near him, plus some images of death masks in a row being crushed. (I may not have this exactly right, I'm trying to remember what I read in the article.)

Anyhow, I thought that I'd post something here about the near-death experience, specifically, about the silver cord that seems to connect our spirits to our physical bodies. People who astral travel sometimes report seeing this cord, and many near-death experiencers have seen it, too.

This is an interesting article which will tell you more about some of the research that has been done on it.

Breaking News - Votes Still Being Counted in Ohio - Kerry Still Might Win

Breaking news -

Interestingly enough, no one in the major media is reporting this.

The provisional ballots in Ohio ARE still being counted. Voting officials there say that these votes will be tallied within the next ten days. Remember, Kerry is only trailing Bush by about 130,000 in that state, and there are estimated to be some 250,000 provisional votes floating around. And exit polls conducted election night in Ohio called for a Kerry win, so there's no reason to believe that he doesn't have a chance to win a fair share of those provisional votes.

The voting official said that if Kerry wins those votes that he will take the electoral votes for that state, and he will be elected President. IN SPITE OF HIS CONCESSION SPEECH. A concession speech is more of a gentleman's agreement, not a legally binding one to automatically step down.
The process is still in place, folks, no matter what the mainstream media want you to believe.

You can read what one reporter heard from the voting official in Ohio here:

http://www.rense.com/general59/daf.htm

The plot thickens.

The Lipstick Mystic Weighs in On the Election

Pardon me today, but I'm a little confused. Kerry has conceded the Presidential race, even though there are supposed to be some 250,000 provisional ballots still uncounted in Ohio, and he only needs about 130,000 to beat Bush in that state. There's really no reason to automatically assume that those provisional ballots don't have a chance for bringing him the electoral votes in that State, and therefore win him the election, if they were all counted.

He was very quick to concede. This leads me to wonder if he ever really wanted to win this affair, after all. Was it just a grand Skull and Bones pantomime (since both Kerry and Bush are sworn members of that secretive Yale order. They do swear brotherhood to the end in that group. Do they ever truly go against each other in public? Or is it all a stage play?)

I have also always wondered about the money issues. You can't run for President in this country unless you have a ton of money and also have access to more through fund-raising. Kerry's wife, Theresa Heinz Kerry, inherited a huge fortune from her deceased husband, Senator John Heinz. Heinz was a Republican Senator, albeit a liberal one. Is it likely that Republican money will ever put a Democrat in the White House? Probably not.

I also think it's fascinating how there hasn't been much public exposure of the problems with the Diebold voting machines and how the method for "hacking" them has not only been discovered, it's been widely spread throughout the world by now. Heck, you can download the code off the Internet.

I stand by my original prediction made in my satirical astrology article about Kerry and Bush. Kerry was, energetically, set up to win 62% of the popular vote and the election itself - if the will of the people ever actually counted for anything, which it apparently didn't. Even Zogby, a brilliant and often contrarian pollster, was projecting Kerry to win all throughout the day based on his own polling data. (Not that polls are infallible, of course, but this guy is great with his work. You can read about him in last week's copy of the New Yorker, if you have one around.)

It's also a bit suspicioius how CNN and NBC and the news people were projecting that Bush automatically won all the "red" states the SECOND AFTER the polls in those states closed. That's when the information was posted. What, do the numbers get automatically transferred, via telepathy, into the heads of the news anchors? Must be a pretty handy way of getting information.

Also, if you watched carefully as numbers were tabulated throughout the night and projected by these guys (I was following it on the Internet,) something smelled very wrong. In the states where Kerry was trailing behind, he was often trailing behind by exactly 47%. This number reccured with such frequency as I was watching it that it really caught my attention. I would have loved to have had a statistician sitting next to me. Does 47% occur EXACTLY that many times in nature? Meaning, without human interference? Whatever happened to the principle of randomness?

There were so many numbers projected that were clearly not random at all, and they smelled of human intervention. On another website, someone pointed out that several Republicans won with the exact same number of votes - 18,181. This included Danny Scheel, Carter Casteel, Jeff Wentworth, Candice Miller, and Michael Smiegel, who all had the exact same number of votes - 18,181. Does this seem random to you?

I doubt we will ever have the full story of what happened with this election. I wasn't a huge fan of Kerry's, but I see behind the mask that Bush wears, and let me tell ya girls, you don't want to see what I see.

You really don't.

You really, really, really, really don't.

Sometimes, it totally sucks having clairvoyant abilities.

Thus ends my political rant. We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

If you'd like to read world-reknowned journalist Greg Palast's article on how the provisional and "spoiled" votes are never to be counted, thanks to Mr. Blackwell in Ohio, read his piece here:

Send a Free Healing Gemstone Ecard

I thought that with all the tension everyone has been experiencing around this election day that we could use some healing. Here is a neat site where you can send a free healing gemstone ecard to someone. You’ll see fine photography of amethysts, emeralds, and other powerful gemstones. Gemstones carry a strong vibration that can balance out various things in your energy field and body if you wear them on you or take gem elixirs orally. Even meditating on a particular gemstone’s image can help you to connect with balancing energies.

So go have a look. Send an ecard to a loved one who could use a lift. Heck, send one to yourself! You deserve a little healing.

TOM BRAUN ON RAW FOODS DIET AND THE CELESTIAL LAW OF GRATITUDE

I’m happy to announce that Nemesis, that divinely inspired and eloquent news agent who sometimes posts at RumorMillNews.com, has kindly agreed to sit down and have a chat with the Lipstick Mystic at her website. In the interview, he discusses the healing effects of the raw food diet and goes into more detail about his experiences trying to clear out his own system with this challenging yet rewarding regimen.

Also, I get him talking about the Celestial Law of Gratitude, a powerful metaphysical principle that can create real miracles in your life. By learning to give thanks for EVERYTHING that life is bringing you (instead of just the “good” stuff, the stuff you want and like,) you magnetize tremendous energies of peace, balance, and joy. He’s written a booklet about this principle. You can read more about his research into this divinely inspired teaching in his guest interview at my website.

You won’t want to miss this opportunity to get to know one of Rumor Mill’s star news agents. I know you’ll learn something amazing as you read the interview.

I know I did!

How Psychic Intuition Operates

People often ask me how they can learn to start accessing their intuition, and sometimes, before you sit down to try any exercises like meditation, visualization, or prayer to tap into spiritual energy, it can be helpful to identify the "who, what, when, where, why" of what you're trying to do. What do you hope to achieve? Why do you want to perceive subtle energies? How do you plan to go about learning how to do this? What are the basic underpinnings for learning how to take stock of impressions that you're constantly receiving from people, places, and things?

This is a quarterly webzine I found which has some excellent articles on these subjects. This article I'm linking to below will give you a nice overview of psychic senses and how they operate.

Of course, I'm also working on book about what I call the "Super Senses" which will go into much more detail....(shameless self-promotional plug)....but this article is good, too!
